BURSA MALAYSIA-OSK ROADSHOW 2005 GIVES RETAIL INVESTORS FIRST- HAND ACCESS TO SMALL CAP COMPANIES

Bursa Malaysia Berhad (Bursa Malaysia) and OSK Holdings Berhad (OSK) have teamed up to organise a ten-city retail investor roadshow showcasing 30 small cap listed companies. The Bursa Malaysia-OSK Small Cap Roadshow 2005 features presentations by senior management members of selected small cap companies in an effort to provide retail investors first-hand information about their businesses.

Yusli Mohamed Yusoff, Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia Berhad said the roadshow was part of the exchange's move to encourage a change among retail investors towards greater fundamental-based investing.

"At Bursa Malaysia, we recognize that as a trading infrastructure provider, we must be held responsible for ensuring our rules and regulations facilitate the operation of a fair and orderly market. But tightening the rules alone is not enough. Change also needs to happen on the investors' side. The investing public has to act more responsibly and recognize their accountability in making investment choices."

He added, "To help the retail investor, we at the exchange are committed to driving greater information availability to the public across the market. Paramount to our objective is to ensure that we try to level the playing field for our retail investors by giving them similar if not equal access to information that will allow them to make as informed decisions as those by the institutional or high net worth investor."

Participating companies were selected from the recently published book on "Top Malaysian Small Cap Companies - 100 Hidden Jewels" by OSK.

Dato' Nik Mohamed Din bin Datuk Nik Yusoff, Executive Chairman of OSK Holdings Berhad said, " There are great values to be unearthed from these small cap companies. Our analysis suggests that the top 100 small cap list has a combined historical Price Earning Ratio multiple of just 10x for 2004 and 8.5x for 2005. To put it in perspective, these 100 companies are collectively trading at about 36% discount to the market based on earnings in 2004 and 38% based on 2005 earnings. The earnings growth for these stocks is at an astonishing 18% in 2005, which is even higher than OSK Research's stock universe earnings growth of 12% for this year.

"Through this joint initiative with Bursa Malaysia, OSK is sure the participating companies will get tremendous exposure and an opportunity to relate their success stories and future plans to a captive audience. Retail investors too will be provided with an added advantage to stay ahead in the market and make rewarding investments," continued Dato' Nik.

The roadshow is part of a three-pronged Retail Plan 2005 by Bursa Malaysia to attract more retail investors back to the stock market. The plan also includes the already launched CMDF-Bursa Research Scheme that provides regular research reports on participating companies for free on the Bursa Malaysia website. In addition, the exchange is also planning to organise a Remisier Forum aimed at assisting remisiers in adapting to the evolving retail industry and changing investor expectations.

Said Yusli, "As an investor's main contact point in executing trading transactions, the remisier is poised to be a very important lynch pin in providing sound counsel and aiding investor understanding of the risks and opportunities related to a particular investment. To help our remisiers develop these advisory skills we have outlined a series of briefings for them that will give them greater exposure to how their peers in other markets have expanded their roles into more advisory capacities. These briefings in addition also give remisiers first-hand contact with the exchange, so they can provide us with feedback and also obtain clarification on our trading rules and regulations."

The Bursa Malaysia-OSK Small Cap Roadshow 2005 roadshow will commence on 16 July at Bursa Malaysia and move on to other venues before ending at the exchange on 12 November 2005. Admission is RM10.
