Bursa Malaysia wishes to announce its Headline Key Performance Indicators ("KPIs") for year 2006 as part of its effort to promote greater transparency to the investing public.
With our mission of aiming to offer an internationally competitive marketplace for fund raising and investment, the following 3 core strategic objectives were established:
? Enhance quality of markets covering infrastructure, products, regulations and perception
? Grow investor base and enhance market promotion
? Improve operational and financial efficiency
With the above aspiration, main corporate targets were set and the following Headline KPIs represent the key drivers as well as key motivation for the corporate performance:
a) Return on equity
? It measures the performance of company in terms of profitability, asset management and financial leverage.
? Target is 9.1% by end 2006 from 6.8% in 2005.
b) Percentage of total trade turnover value of domestic retail participation
? It measures Bursa Malaysia's strategic goal to improve on its domestic retail participation where the increased participation of this segment of investors will expectantly enhance the sentiment and activity of the stock market.
? Target percentage of domestic retail participation for 2006 is 35% (FY05 - 28%).
c) New products and services to be introduced
? Products and services are key components of delivering a quality market, and this is entrenched in Bursa Malaysia's strategic objectives.
? For 2006, Bursa Malaysia has targeted to introduce at least a combination of 10 products and services, such as Single Stock Futures, Regulated Short Selling (RSS), Stock Borrowing & Lending (SBL) and FTSE-Bursa Indices.
These Headline KPIs are selected from the broader Balanced Scorecard framework that Bursa Malaysia has established. The targets shall not be construed as either forecast, projections or estimates of Bursa Malaysia or representations of any future performance, occurrence or matter as the targets are merely a set of aspirations of future performance aligned to Bursa Malaysia's strategic objectives.
