BURSA MALAYSIA AND SIAS RESEARCH LAUNCH THE FIRST MALAYSIAN MARKET SEMINAR IN SINGAPORE
The guest of honour, Dato' Dr. Ng Yen Yen, Malaysia's Deputy Minister of Finance, will be officiating the seminar as well as delivering a keynote address. Eight Malaysian companies have been specially selected to give presentations at this seminar. The companies are:-
1) Dreamgate Corporation Bhd
2) Hovid Bhd
3) Jobstreet Corporation Bhd
4) Muhibbah Engineering (M) Bhd
5) Naim Cendera Holdings Bhd
6) QL Resources Bhd
7) Tanjung Offshore Bhd
8) Tenaga Nasional Bhd
Encik Omar Merican, Chief Operating Officer of Bursa Malaysia said, "This seminar is geared towards showcasing quality Malaysian public listed companies. Designed to demonstrate the attractiveness of Malaysia as an investment centre, this seminar will give retail investors a clearer picture of Malaysian companies so that they can gain deeper appreciation of the potential these companies could hold as investments."
Encik Omar added that Bursa Malaysia's sponsorship of this seminar is also an indication of the importance it attaches to retail investment from across the causeway.
These eight Malaysian companies will be able to introduce their businesses as investment prospects to Singapore investors, who will in turn have an opportunity to meet face-to-face with the management of these companies at the end of the event. According to SIAS Research's Chief Investment Analyst Terence Wong, SIAS Research received an overwhelming response to the seminar, filling up the 500-seater auditorium in less than a week of marketing. This positive response is a testament of the growing interest in Malaysian stocks. The presence of two Malaysian brokers AmSecurities (and its wholly-owned Singapore subsidiary Fraser Securities) and JF Apex Securities will facilitate cross-border trading activity.
Mr David Gerald, Founder, President & CEO of SIAS which represents 66,000 retail investors, said, "Over the past nine years, investors in Singapore have been apprehensive about looking at Malaysian stocks because of the CLOB issue. We believe that it is now time to re-look at the Malaysian market. For this first seminar, we are glad that Malaysia's Deputy Minister of Finance has kindly agreed to grace this event. Singapore investors will therefore have the opportunity to find out the investment scene in Malaysia".
