BURSA MALAYSIA ENHANCES COMMITMENT TO INVESTOR RELATIONS PRACTICE WITH NEW IR POLICY
Bursa Malaysia has taken one step further towards enhancing investor relations (IR) practices through its newly published Investor Relations (IR) Policy. This IR Policy strengthens the company's commitment to investor relations as an important vehicle for communicating to shareholders, stakeholders and investors.
Yusli Mohamed Yusoff, Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia said, "As a regulator and listed entity, we want to be a catalyst towards further developing the practice of good IR. As we move towards an environment which demands greater disclosure and corporate accountability, it is important that public listed companies (PLCs) know how to effectively manage and disseminate corporate information as well as communicate to all relevant stakeholders. Bursa Malaysia's IR policy very much demonstrates how we strive to provide investors and market players with clear, timely and transparent information."
Yusli added, "Whilst PLCs may have IR practices within their organisation, we believe that most do not have a written policy. An IR policy that is endorsed by the Board and communicated to all employees within the organisation is critical to ensure the objectives of IR practices and role of the respective parties are clear. This way, the programmes are implemented in a consistent manner."
Bursa Malaysia's IR Policy, which outlines a framework for IR practice, is posted on Bursa Malaysia's website (www.bursamalaysia.com). This policy is a reflection of how Bursa Malaysia attaches importance to maintaining an open dialogue with the market and media through financial results announcements, press releases and analyst/investor briefings.
Yusli concluded, "We strongly encourage all PLCs to come up with an IR policy and implement the IR activities effectively. We also recognise that IR is a fairly new concept for many PLCs. Therefore, Bursa Malaysia is initiating a programme to provide PLCs with an IR guidebook and workshops sometime in the fourth quarter of 2006."
