BURSA MALAYSIA AND DALIAN COMMODITY EXCHANGE TO JOINTLY ORGANIZE CHINA INTERNATIONAL OIL AND OILSEEDS CONFERENCE
Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Berhad (Bursa Malaysia) and the Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) today signed an agreement to jointly organize the "China International Oil and Oilseeds Conference".
This conference aims to promote markets for edible oils and oilseeds as well as encourage hedging with exchange traded futures amongst the edible oil participants. Additionally, this conference is poised to stimulate institutional investors' involvement in the futures market and also increase awareness of Bursa Malaysia and DCE globally.
Present at the signing ceremony, Head of Global Markets of Bursa Malaysia Berhad Mr. Raghbir Singh Bhart said, "This agreement is in line with our objective of globalizing our crude palm oil (CPO) prices and ensuring the maintenance of Malaysia as the CPO price discovery. The conference will not only help Bursa Malaysia achieve these goals but also strengthen the close bond between Bursa Malaysia and DCE with regards to establishing a platform that is beneficial to the global edible oil traders in Malaysia and China."
DCE's representative, Mr. Jun Li said, " We are pleased that Bursa Malaysia and DCE have reached an agreement to work closely on this conference. Bursa Malaysia is home to the world's largest crude palm oil futures contract and China is one of the largest consumers of edible oils. With this partnership, DCE hopes to learn from Bursa Malaysia's experience in developing a successful palm oil futures market."
Mr. Jun Li added that DCE is confident that the joint Conference will further enhance the cooperation between Bursa Malaysia and DCE, spur the market development for both exchanges and promote the edible oil industry both in Malaysia and China.
This initiative is as a result of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the two exchanges in April 2006. Under this Agreement, Bursa Malaysia and DCE will work closely together to design the Conference structure and contents, invite Conference participants and speakers and provide the necessary resources for staging the Conference.
