Bursa Malaysia And Malaysian Institute Of Integrity Working Together With Industry Captains To Foster Good Corporate Integrity And Business Governance
Bursa Malaysia, in collaboration with Malaysian Institute of Integrity, is organising a "Corporate Integrity Dialogue" series throughout the year, together with captains of the various industries. This dialogue series aims to foster the exchange of best practices, knowledge and ideas towards improving corporate governance and integrity in the business community.
Tun Mohamed Dzaiddin bin Haji Abdullah, Chairman of Bursa Malaysia Berhad said the Corporate Integrity Dialogue series champions Malaysia's effort for integrity, accountability and transparency in ways people operate businesses.
"In the business community, the best practice of corporate governance is a must to facilitate a safe and regulated environment within the scope of transparency, accountability and integrity. The enhancement of corporate governance has always been one of the main priorities of Bursa Malaysia. The exchange has been actively promoting corporate governance amongst listed companies through providing a sound regulatory framework, taking consistent and objective enforcement actions against PLCs and directors as well as advocating continuing education for directors by requiring attendance for mandatory accreditation and training programmes," added Tun Mohamed Dzaiddin.
Datuk Dr Mohd Tap Salleh, President of Malaysian Institute of Integrity commented, "Companies which have high business integrity will build up a high degree of sustainability due to honest and able human leadership capital as well as ensure continuous investment in the companies' stocks. Thus, I hope that this dialogue can be a start of a series of ongoing engagements that actively promotes integrity and accountability as well as good governance practices, which are deemed as success factors for any company's competitiveness."
The inaugural dialogue session takes place on 17 April 2007 and is aimed at discussing issues on corporate governance and business ethics as outlined in the National Integrity Plan to further enhance corporate integrity understanding amongst public listed companies and professionals. The dialogue will also discuss international indicators such as the Corruption Perceptions Index, Bribe Payers Index and Competitiveness Index.
The first Corporate Integrity Dialogue will feature constructive discussion between prominent figures namely Dr Nik Ramlah Mahmood, Senior Executive Director, Strategy and Development, Securities Commission Malaysia and Mr. Lee Chong San, Chairman of Finance Committee, Transparency International Secretariat Berlin, Germany.
