Subject | : | Article in the cnbc.com, 21 November 2007 entitled "Six Asian nations planning common stock exchange" |
We refer to the news article appearing in the cnbc.com on 21 November 2007, captioned as above, in particular the sentences as reproduced below:
"Six Southeast Asian countries plan to set up a common stock exchange for easier cross-border trading in big-cap stocks. Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam would jointly set up an exchange for regional trading in late 2008."
In this respect, we wish to clarify that the proposal to set up an exchange for regional trading is at a conceptual stage. We welcome this direction as it bodes well with Bursa Malaysia's plans to encourage cross-border trading among the regional exchanges. We are optimistic that this move will encourage more foreign investors to value the attractive opportunities offered by ASEAN exchanges.
Bursa Malaysia will make appropriate announcement should there be any significant corporate development on this matter.
This announcement is dated 22 November 2007.
